MACOMB COUNTY — In March 2020, the stage at the Macomb Center for the Performing Arts fell silent because of COVID-19. Musicians turned off their amps, dancers hung up their costumes and theater performers put abroad their scripts.

"The arts tin affect someone for a lifetime," said David Schroeder, educational outreach coordinator for the Macomb Center for the Performing Arts and the Lorenzo Cultural Center. "Students are utilizing their creativity. We're building self-confidence, promoting teamwork and personal development. They're improving their creativity and confidence."

Although the workshops weren't offered last summer considering of COVID, Schroeder has visited them in person in past years.

"I've watched the students have fun learning," he said. "Our instructors are very knowledgeable. They're just so passionate, figuring out the strengths of each educatee and finding their voice."

All The Earth's A Phase volition perform "Wish Upon A Star" at 7 p.thou. Aug. 14 on the Macomb Eye backyard. The evidence choir workshop functioning will be at seven p.m. July 30 on the Macomb Center lawn.

The Lorenzo Cultural Center, located next door to the Performing Arts Heart, too has re-opened to the public. MCC and the Detroit Institute of Arts have partnered to exhibit "American Spectacle" from June 11 through Sept. 11.

"American Spectacle: Selections from the Nancy and Sean Cotton Drove of American Art," includes a selection of eleven artworks by American painters of the late 19th and early 20th century that explore competing visions of American culture and identity that remain relevant today. Every Friday, from one:30 to 3:30 p.g., a DIA specialist is on-site to give tours of the exhibit. Cultural Center hours are ten a.m. to four p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays. The event is free, and pre-registration is non required.
